Do3 makes its mark at ETU European Championships – Triathlon squad places in top 10 overall
Do3, Warwickshire’s triathlon squad, brought its season to a finale at the 2018 Ibiza ETU Multisport European Championships with athletes placing in the top 10 in Europe.
A dozen on the squad had qualified to represent GB in their respective age groups and took part in various disciplines over the week-long festival that drew triathletes from more than 25 nations.
Seanin Gilmore, representing Ireland, raced at the Duathlon European Championships. In stifling conditions she covered a 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run completing the race in 2:10. She was 6th female in her age group having already placed as 7th in the World Championships earlier in the season. Richard Shephard was 4th male overall in the duathlon and won a silver in his age group after completing the course in 1:44.
Stephanie Cox, who made her debut for GB at age group, took part in the aquathlon which was raced over a 1km sea swim and 5km run. She completed the event in 43:15 and was 17th in her age group.
On Saturday 27th October the squad raced at middle distance, however due to precipitous weather, the course was changed to a 1.9km swim, 45.6km bike and 21.2 km run. Jemima Cooper took silver in her age group and was the 7th female overall in a time of 03:46.
Richard Shephard won his 2nd medal of the week coming 1st in his age group and 6th male overall in a time of 3:08. Toni Senior, Kate O’Neil and Amy Hinton all raced for GB and placed within the top 20 of their age groups in times of 04:01, 04:09 and 4:12 respectively. Mel Knight raced for France at age group in a time of 04:08 and also placed in the top 20 of her age group while Andrew White completed the race in 3:53:26.
In the middle distance aquabike, a 1.9km swim and 45.6km bike, Stuart Mackay took silver in his age group and was 11th in the overall field. John Wrottesley completed the event in 1:59 and was 8th in his age group and Louy Beasley was 12th in her age group.
Dave Knight, Do3 head coach comments ‘It has been a good week, a very good week in Ibiza. Once again Seanin showed her ability at duathlon and I’m delighted for Stephanie who took part in her first age group race for GB. The conditions of the middle distance triathlon and aquabike were truly horrendous with delays blighting the start. Despite the weather, the squad held their nerves and all of our females placed in the top 20 in Europe and Jemima stormed in as the 7th female in the entire field’.
Do3 is mentored and managed by Dave Knight, one of the UK’s leading triathlon coaches and has been recognised as Coach of the Year at Stratford District Council Sport Awards. The squad is made up of over 200 Midlands-based athletes; from triathlon enthusiasts and age group competitors to professional athletes.
