Squad Athlete: Mike Davis
I am somewhat of a novice in the world of Triathlon, less than 12 months ago I decided to do an Ironman after watching one on holiday in Lanzarote in May 2017. I was almost 15 stone and unfit and decided on a challenge to do the same race in 2018.
I started training upon my return at the beginning of June, I was a swimmer in my younger years, I have done a bit of Mountain Biking, but sadly not really run since school, Im now 53. I struggled to start with but had good motivation to keep going, one of my biggest problems is the amount of contradictory information out there regarding swimming cycling and running in the general media.
I slowly started to get better at all three disciplines and enjoyed the exercise and the weight loss. Around November 2017 a friend of mine had ticked like on an FB page for a squad called Do3, I had a read of the page and decided to give them a go as they cover bases for Stratford upon Avon Warwick and Solihull.
I can honestly say that was probably one of my better decisions, I instantly felt welcome and within a few sessions had made new friends I felt Id known a lot longer than I actually had, not only is the coach very knowledgeable and always on hand for advice, but the squad is a wealth of knowledge and experience, from newbies like me to seasoned age groupers representing there respective countries, the encouragement and camaraderie is second to none and I can quite honestly say if I hadn’t joined Do3 I would not be in with as good a chance of completing my Ironman as I am at the moment, my swimming is faster my cycling is faster and my running is massively improved. I now feel I am getting the right advice and structured training to achieve my present and future goals. Swimming Cycling and Running with a group of like minded friends makes the hard training easier and more enjoyable, Im hooked on Triathlon.
I suppose you could say the old cliche…..if Carlsberg did Tri Squads
