Squad Athlete: Joe Lee

Hello! I was born in 1982, I am happily married with 2 awesome kids. I used to be sporty when I was young, played for 3 football teams, rugby for high school and Stratford RFC and I also plaid badminton for south Warwickshire. I then found cigarettes and alcohol! I smoked up to 40 a day, became massively overweight (19 stone). I then met my awesome wife Kimberley and within 3 months I quit smoking started to be a lot more health conscious, joined the gym and subsequently did a level 3 personal training qualification.

In 2012 I ran the London marathon for Action medical research in 4hrs 12seconds! I never really liked running and decided cycling was the way forward, I joined stratford cycling club and we went for our first trip to club la Santa Lanzarote (which we now go every year!) I was influenced by the Brown Lee brothers and the awesome triathletes at la Santa so I entered and completed a few sprint Triathlons and got the bug! Swimming was my greatest challenge, I had a few lessons with everyone active which meant I could do more than 2 lengths without having to stop for a rest!

In 2017 I heard about Do3 and went for trial session, everyone was super friendly and supportive and the structured sets were amazing, so I booked in to swim regularly with Do3 swim squad. I felt very welcome and massively supported by lane buddies and coaches which pushed me and made me a better athlete. Their are so many inspirational awesome athletes in n the squad, you can only thrive from the energy given. Swimming quickly became my favourite discipline, I then started to enjoy the longer distance triathlons and completed my first full Ironman in Switzerland in 2018! I then went onto cycling Lands End to John O Groats on my own (with my heavily pregnant wife and 7 year old in the support van) for Cyclists Fighting Cancer which was awesome! I am doing Ironman Vichy in 2020 and am loving training with Do3 for this. I’m also a Everyone active sporting champ which means I can use all the amazing facilities and classes EA have on offer. I now work for an awesome charity “Cyclists Fighting Cancer” who massively promote exercise and wellness for people living with and beyond Cancer. I hope I can influence people to be more active and enjoy life to the fullest. I’ve recently become a triathlon coach, I volunteer with Stratford Triathlon club with some swim coaching and I’m currently helping out with Do3 in whichever way I can as they have given me so much over the last few years and I want to give something back.
